©  Phyllis Sinrich - All Rights Reserved 2009

In 2001 Phyllis turned a passion for photography — which had been a hobby since childhood — into her “third life.” “Being recognized as an artist is gratifying and very exciting,” she says.

Her work is exhibited regularly in area juried shows, most notably the annual Faber Birren National Color Award Show, where she has won several sponsored awards over the years. In 2003 one of her abstract photographs was a First Place winner in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution Annual National Travel Photo Competition.

Other venues have been the Katonah Museum of Art in Katonah, NY, Silvermine Guild Arts Center in New Canaan, CT and the Edward Hopper House Art Center in Nyack, NY. During the past few years she has increasingly exhibited at invitational and solo shows.

Phyllis’ style is deeply influenced by the great expressionist painters. Her “photo-expressionism” is spontaneous and interpretive imagery, focused on capturing powerful emotional reactions through brilliant colors and dynamic compositions.

“I love the non-patterned pattern and great composition. Even though the shapes
are familiar, you can’t quite figure it out . . . it’s like someone took color and made
it run across the photograph.” Remarks by Judge Susan Todd-Raque in naming
“Façade - Leon, Spain” First Place winner in the Atlanta-Journal Constitution 2003
        National Travel Photo Competition.
